Scantec specializes in providing high-accuracy utility asset mapping by using Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) in combination with traditional EM locating methods with Radiodetection equipment at every site.

Scantec provides Utility location services for all common underground lines including fiber optics, electrical cables, telephone communication, natural gas, water and sewer lines. We can also locate other objects such as Underground Storage Tanks (USTs), unmarked graves or voids. In addition, Scantec helps clients to locate utilities either they are embedded within a concrete slab or they are underground below the slab prior to digging or excavating.

Scantec’s underground utility locates report includes a detailed site sketch with RTK GPS positions for the location and depth of underground and surface utility features sas well as fixed surface structures such as transformers, manholes, valves. The underground utility location is also plotted aerial images (i.e. Google Earth). Our project report includes standard utility color codes for each point, line, and area. 

Different detection and location methods are being used for the different types of underground lines and using GPR is one of the safest ways to accurately locate the underground objects. By utilizing a wide range of GPR frequencies, we make sure to cover multiple depth ranges for variety of underground obstructions on sites.

Utility scanning for a landscaping project in Edmonton. We work closely with a number of landscaping companies throughout Alberta.

Utility locates at a gas station using ground penetrating radar (GPR) for an environmental drilling project. All pipes and utilities were quickly and accurately located in real time.
